Workshop on ‘my supervisor does not understand me – and I do not understand him/her. Here is how to’

The workshop conducted by the author of the world-wide bestseller ‘Surrounded by Idiots’ Thomas Erikson takes place in Faculty Club, 16.6 on Thursday October 5th from 11.00-14.00 (lunch included). Prior to the workshop, you will be given an opportunity to take a quick online test to provide you with an indication on where you are on the personality scale.

I promise you that this will be great – a huge fan myself :)

(a supervisor-addressed workshop on the topic takes place later in the afternoon – please encourage your supervisor to join that one)

Have you ever tried to argue with your supervisor or your colleague, and nothing went as you planned? Or in frustration left a meeting with the feeling that you didn’t understand your supervisor? And have you noticed that he/she may never seem to listen or understand - no matter how clear you are?

Communication has and will always be a challenge. A prerequisite for interacting with other people is to understand our own behavior and how it affects others. Then we can understand other people's behavior and how we should act in every given situation.

The starting point is self-awareness. The bad news: it is quite rare. The good news: it is easy to attain if one knows where to look.

Understanding our own and others' behavior is an important key for better functioning PhD-supervisor relations and more efficient leadership or actually any situation that includes collaboration with others. It is also an effective way to give management an idea of exactly how challenging it will be to introduce changes. This is simply a reason for making the meeting between people less frictional - and thus more efficient.

This is what this lecture is about.

Welcome to an energizing aha-experience. With the use of behavioral studies on human behaviors mixed with lots of humor, you will learn how to read people around you quickly and easily and reduce the number of meaningless misunderstandings. Discover how to save time by getting a better understanding of everyone you meet in your everyday life, while simultaneously expanding your self-awareness.
